Yes we have five thrift stores in a town of not even 10,000 people. We also have Wal-Mart, a Fred Meyer that only the grocery section, and a Safeway. There are a good number of small businesses but very few last longer than three years (that’s being generous) and when they go belly up they are replaced by a business that will last even more briefly. Many people in other towns boycott Wal-Mart, but that isn’t an option in my hometown. I remember before they doubled the store size and smaller stores were durable. How our Goodwill and four Goodwill knockoffs manage to stay in business in beyond me. At least Macklemore would be at home if he ever visited.
