Pace Yourself

You will have one assignment after another. Always prioritize what is due first. This is not a month to goof around, and don’t let the end of midterms catch you off guard!

Stanczyk

Story: Zeby Stanczyk was jester of dubious historicity who served under three Polish kings. Though nobody is certain whether he existed or not it he has had a major significance in Polish culture because of his outgoing sense of humor which enabled him to say what needed to be said. He was always quick to point out wrongs, but was able to deliver them in a way that was palatable. His knowledge of the events around him was also something of a curse, as he would be grief stricken when others where blissfully oblivious. This was especially true when Smolensk fell to Russia in 1514, and Stanczyk was the only one in the palace remotely bothered by it; everyone else was too busy having fun a ball to realize their country would soon be dissolved.

Attributes: People born under the Stanzcyk sign love interacting with other people and are very good at amusing them. They also are very good at analyzing situations in an understandable fashion. However they are deeply cynical and skeptical, and this makes it difficult to see good; but they are very aware of their own weaknesses. Also the type who are quick to point out that astrologers, mediums, diviners, etc. are just charlatans out for the money.

My future self

In such an occasion I would I assume that I had met my future self, assuming that they were the same gender, height, and color as me but somewhat older. As freaky as that would be the truly terrifying thing would be the fact is apparently however far in the future that version of myself is, apparently nothing between then and now changed for me. Such stagnation might not be bad if you don’t realize it’s going on. It’s not like one day you’ll realize “oh shit my house looks exactly the same as it did five years ago!” However I would be bummed to realize that nothing would change, especially considering how much my families living room alone has changed over the years and how often those changes occur; and each one is indicative of something larger going on.

If it was obvious that the new acquaintance was NOT a future version of myself, I’m not sure what I would think. Maybe they would be an alternate universe version of myself.

The Welkin

I would have to choose the sky. For starters it’s the biggest visible item, so it would maximize the amount of color that we could all see. The main reason is because of the shear prism of colors that the sky projects. So we would not be stuck with just one color and countless shades of gray. Instead we would have blues, purples, yellows, and a couple others. I’m not sure if the rules would allow the coloration of just the sky itself, but imagine how great it would be if it included every thing that is in the sky and is therefore part of it. Another DP participant said the ocean, problem is that the ocean derives its color from the sky’s reflection. With no color in the sky there would effectively be no color in the ocean.

Halloween Helper

This year I decided to participate as a scarer in the campus haunted house. I play a killer clown who followers visitors for the first half and scares them right as they leave. We started on Thursday and tonight will be the last night. Its held in one of the occupied dorm halls and this year was a big improvement from last year. Honestly though, it is difficult to be scared when you know everyone doing the scaring and can usually recognize them from how they walk.

Today the campus hosted a trick-or-treating event for the townie kids. A fellow staff writer for the paper is doing an article about it but she volunteered with giving out candy so I took pictures for her to include in the piece. This year there were way too many Elsas and Marvel heroes.

10 Precious Minutes

There’s been a lot of different assignments coinciding this week, so I haven’t had much time to blog. So busy. But the good kind of busy. There have been a few times where I logged and read the DP only to realize I had a precious hour to do something important before the next class period. Well to be honest there have been a couple times recently when I didn’t post anything because I thought the current DP was corny and I didn’t want to bother with something I didn’t have much to say about in the first place. Two situations exist when I do not post much. The first one is the one I am in now, simply too much else to do. The second is the opposite, nothing to do hence nothing to write about.

Flying Colors

For me it would be passing an exam with a 90% or better. That happened for one of my midterms this semester, but I scored Cs on the other ones. Those others were 50% essay and 25% for both matching and multiple choice. While I scored excellent on the essays, I didn’t do so hot on the others, however that is the same for my classmates. Said classes are Modern Egypt, and Nazi Germany, and all of those Egyptian and German names just blended together for most of us. Thankfully those exams make up a relatively small segment of our final grade. Now I can rest easy.

Aristophanes and the Creation of Man

Right now I’m Philosophy 201 and we’re going over Plato. Here’s an excellent adaptation from one of his books that we watched in class:

This story is derived from Symposium and is told by Aristophanes, who was the bitter enemy of Plato’s mentor Socrates. Its notable that Plato gave the best speech in the book to a rival, and I find the story itself a very bizarre alternative to Genesis or most other First Man and First Woman Stories.
